Andy Ogletree contends for win before finishing T6

It might not have been a storybook ending for Andy Ogletree, but don’t expect him to lose any confidence despite the way it ended.

The good far outweighed the disappointment for the young HyFlyers Golf Club member, who not only was in contention throughout but the overnight leader on Saturday. In the end, a few tough holes proved too tough to overcome, ending with Ogletree finishing T6 and his best result in his last six events.

Ogletree was part of LIV Golf’s inaugural field two years ago in London, and after battling injuries, he made his way back to the LIV Golf League as the International Series champion in 2023. He has made the most of it at times in 2024, including a T3 in Adelaide.

In the UK, Ogletree and his backstory was a main talking point as he held the top spot on the leaderboard. He shot 6-under 65s in the first two rounds to take a two-shot lead into Sunday.

As Ogletree continued to climb the leaderboard, he reflected on how supportive his teammates have been, whether it was about his injuries or scores.

“Honestly, at times I have been annoyed with how positive the team has been,” Ogletree said with a laugh. “No, don't tell me how great I am. I've been playing like crap. No, they've been super supportive. Everyone has been super nice to me. Obviously, I haven't had the year that I expect to or the year that I want to have, and they still treat me just as well, and I don't think that's the case with every team. I've really, really enjoyed that.”

A final-round 3-over 74 took him out of contention, but the confidence was back.

As for the team, it finished T7 and is No. 12 in the season-long standings. Cameron Tringale found a spark in the UK and matched Ogletree’s T6 finish. His 4-under 67 on Sunday was one of the day’s best scores. Captain Phil Mickelson finished even par for the week while teammate Brendan Steele ended at 3 over.

The team will have three weeks off before heading to the United States for LIV Golf Greenbrier, which takes place Aug. 16-18. The Old White Course in West Virginia has been the setting for plenty of memorable performances on the LIV Golf League.

The course has hosted numerous professional events and is known for its tight, tree-lined fairways and undulating greens. It’s the first 18-hole golf course at The Greenbrier and was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald before opening for play in 1914. The course was named for the well-known Old White Hotel, which stood on the grounds from 1858-1922.
