HONG KONG RECAP: HYFLYERS DISPLAY RESILIENCE
It wasn’t exactly the way HyFlyers Golf Club wanted the week to work out, but some late toughness and grit left the team feeling better entering a break before the next LIV Golf League event.
Captain Phil Mickelson started the weekend behind the eight ball after a tough opening round, but on Saturday and Sunday he rebounded with rounds of 68 and 70 as he became more comfortable on the short, tough Hong Kong Golf Club layout. The team finished in 12th place and Mickelson finished T-52. Overall, the three-time Masters champion will be able to pick out plenty of positives from the weekend, just one week after a stellar T-6 finish in Jeddah.
His teammates got out to quicker starts and showed solid consistency. Cameron Tringale opened with a team-best 4-under 66 and went even par on the weekend to finish T-34. He was coming off a T-22 in Jeddah, and as one of the League’s most steady players, is looking for a steady climb in the coming events.
Andy Ogletree bounced back from a T-41 finish in Jeddah with a T-29. He was a combined 5-under par in the opening two rounds and shot a fine even-par 70 on Sunday in tougher conditions.
Brendan Steele did his part as well. Avoiding any big numbers, he opened with an even-par round and went 4-under par on the weekend. His 3-under 67 was his team’s best score on a wet and windy Sunday.
The team will have a break before teeing it up again at LIV Golf Miami from April 5-7 at Trump National Doral.
